One of the most famous squares in the world, the main hub for the October 7th hostage crisis, Hostages Square, has its name officially set in stone (literally and figuratively) as a permanent landmark in the country's history.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai wrote in a Facebook post that renaming the square is "to ensure that this chapter in the history of the State of Israel from October 7, 2023, until the return of the last hostage, Ran Gvili, on January 26, 2026, will be remembered for generations to come."
Rallies, speeches, prayer services, performances, televised funerals, and hostage releases, have all taken place at Hostages Square since October 7th.
The official, permanent name ensures that the world will always remember the October 7th massacre and the hostage crisis.
