They Are Coming Home: Israel Celebrates

After two years and almost one week, on the English calendar, and exactly two years on the Hebrew one, the remaining hostages held captive in Gaza are finally coming home. Hamas is expected to release them before Trump lands in Israel tomorrow morning, October 13, 2025. The 20 living hostages will be taken to hospitals for rehabilitation, and the murdered for forensics and burial.

Trump and his negotiating team have been praised and celebrated in Israel for securing the latest deal and bringing an end to the pain and suffering for the hostages and their families, while supporting and honoring those that did not, and will not return, including the hundreds of IDF soldiers who fell in battle.

Hostages Square in Tel Aviv has seen tears, anger, trauma, pain, demonstrations, and vigils. It even witnessed periods of joy when former hostages were released. The newly-created square following October 7, 2023, has been the command post for the families of the hostages.

It didn't take long for Hostages Square to become a symbol of hope, unity and resilience. It even provided a place for the Israeli public to express their trauma, while supporting hostage families both in their heart-wrenching losses, and in their long and painful fight to save their loved ones from the torture tunnels in Gaza.
